Having grown up around horses on the Devon/Dorset border, from early days at Pony Club to later show jumping and eventing as a teenager, Mandy first set foot in Newmarket, the headquarters of horse racing whilst on a placement during her Biology degree. From first touch, she knew that an involvement in the racing industry in some shape or form was to be her future.
Based in Newmarket, she founded Sporting Chance Racing in 2017 to manage owners racing and bloodstock interests, and she continues to be heavily involved in veterinary science and in equine commercial photography.
Mandy has over 30 years’ experience in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry. She combines exceptional clinical and technical skills with a lifelong love of horses and racing. She began her career in Newmarket at the equine exercise physiology research unit of the Animal Health Trust whilst also riding out for leading racehorse trainers Michael Stoute and William Haggas, a way of life that was going to last for eight years.
Five years at the Horseracing Forensic Lab followed, with post race drug screening of samples for the Jockey Club before heading to Dubai.
The next ten years in the Emirates were spent closely aligned to the veterinary side of the sport and invaluable knowledge was gained along the way on various injuries sustained by racehorses together with observing the continual advances in technology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of such.
The main focus of her diagnostic experience is notably setting up and managing three equine veterinary diagnostic laboratories over a period of 14 years exclusively for H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a leading owner and investor globally in the world of horseracing. Located in Newmarket, Evry in France and the main one forming an integral part of the new Dubai Equine Hospital, and all coincided with the inauguration of Godolphin in 1995 and supporting the fast growing population of racing and competition horses within the Emirates.
Mandy has been successfully managing all aspects of her clients’ racing interests for 10 years. High profile private clients, including star football player turned manager Joey Barton, trust her experience, contacts, integrity and talent. Her activities on behalf of private clients include racing and bloodstock management which covers consultancy and administration for purchases and sales, horses in training, liaising with trainer, race day hospitality and breeding stock, with a concierge style management and a personal bespoke touch.
Many years of experience across the spectrum of the horse racing industry has ensured that Mandy has a gained a great depth of understanding of this exciting sport as a whole.
She has built up a vast network of racing contacts and good working relationships right across the board and as a manager she is able to draw on this. She knows equally well how to converse with the owner, the trainer, the jockey, the stable staff and even the horse!
Also, a talented equine photographer, Mandy receives regular commissions from notable trainers and owners, as well as specific requests from bloodstock agents and local businesses. Many of Mandy’s photos have been used on this website, but more can be found elsewhere online and in various publications. Please contact Mandy to discuss enquiries for print or commissions.
